Jan Larkey considers herself to be an optimistic survivor. When Life puts a STOP sign in her path, she thinks that means Switch-To-Other-Possibilities. This attitude has propelled her to success as an author, consultant, speaker, columnist, artist and survivor.
Jan’s working life began with teaching art in the public schools and making custom designed wedding bands in the evenings. Unable to secure an art teaching position after moving to Pittsburgh, she became an Image Consultant. Her clients kept asking. “What styles will make me look good? The search for answers led her to write and illustrate her book FLATTER YOUR FIGURE published by Simon & Schuster.
An avid marketer and media trained, Larkey’s book promotions took her to 26 cities and two foreign countries. She appeared on television shows including “CBS This Morning,” QVC and talk shows on CNBC, NBC, LIFETIME, and FOX.
Larkey became a columnist for The New York Daily News and a spokesperson for Lands’ End. She contributed chapters to DEVELOPING PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIORS (Slack, Inc.) and FITTING YOUR FIGURE (Taunton Press).
Quoted and featured in publications such as McCalls, Woman’s Day, Working Mother, Butterick and USA TODAY, Larkey’s article “The A, B, C’s of Selecting Swimwear” was picked up by Gannett and published in 123 newspapers.
Larkey’s plans for two more books with Simon & Schuster crashed to a halt when she was injured in a car wreck. Fully recovered after four years, she returned to her art interest until picking up her pen again as a freelance writer.
